Pinewood Derby

On Thursday Adam had his first Pinewood Derby. He has been doing scouts now for about a year, and neither Lewis nor I know much about it. He has had hit or miss leaders in the past. Last year the only reason he moved up to Wolf is because he and I sat down and did the whole book in 1 day.

So about the derby. He was so excited to make the car and race the car. Lewis and I were...well less then enthused. We have no idea how to do those things. Lewis is not a "handmade" kind of dad. Lewis quit scouts when he was like 10. He never remembers doing the derby and building the car...we don't have tools and saws and such. So Adam went to the scout masters house and had him help build the car. It ended up OK and Adam got "Most Unusual Car" in the pack. He got 2nd to last place, but had a great time doing it.

Doctor Appointments

This past week I took my 2 boys to the doctor. Adam went on Tuesday, and Jason went on Wednesday. They are both healthy and fine.

After Jason's doctor was done with his check up she asked me, "so, who is the anxious one? You or your husband?" So I told her it was most likely me. (Adam and Jason are both a little anxious and nervous about new things and are scared of things that they have never tried.) I can stay awake all night worrying about things. She proceeded to tell me that being anxious is a genetic trait. While I was driving home I started thinking about it. My mother has always been a worry wart, and my dad stays awake at night worrying about everything. So does my grandmother. So I called my mom and asked her, and found out that her grandmother was also an overly anxious person. So that explains it. Oh great, now I have something else to worry about. I wonder if the girls worry too?

But on a very funny note... during Adam's doctor appointment she made a comment to him about how puberty is right around the corner. He said, "Yeah so is blockbuster but mom won't let me go there either!" It was so funny that the doctor and I could not stop laughing for 5 minutes!! Now he walks around and says, "Mom, tell them that funny thing I said at the doctor!"...he has no idea!

So Lewis(my husband) doesn't like the name of my blog. He assumes that it has something to do with all of the trips he takes. Like the fact that he went to Las Vegas this past weekend with some old friends from high school while I stayed home with our 4 children. Maybe that has something to do with it.....maybe not.

Neighbors, Friends, Co-Workers.....they all go on vacation regularly. Even my siblings family's ( who by the way do not have jobs! ) go on vacation frequently. Day trips, weekend trips, week long, and 3 week long vacations to Australia (yeah you know who you are!!!). Maybe it is jealousy, maybe it is not.

Don't get me wrong I have been on tons of vacations. San Diego, Spain, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., Mexico, and Paris to name a few. But it has been a long time since my last trip. And did I mention that during all of my trips I was either young enough to still be living with my parents and under 16 at the time, or was grown with children of my own to come with me. I have officially been without any of my kids a total of 3 nights in over 9 years. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids but I need a break too.

I named my blog "When's My Vacation" because my life is hectic, busy and I put up with a lot. A lot more then I realise sometimes. I work at a school and take care of a family of 6 plus a cat. At least once a day I think, When's My Vacation?, and then at least once a day I think, Damn, it is nice to be home!

Maybe I can't make up my mind...I think I might need a vacation.
